SKILLS

  • Scavenging
  • Wilderness survival
  • Slight of hand
  • Staff-fighting
  • Identifying plants and animals
  • Thievery

  • ABILITIES

  • Elemental magic - Rey is descended from wildlands elves and has a strong connection to elemental magic. She is largely self-taught and has a strong focus in wind and water elemental magic. Like her, both elements are highly adaptable. She has recently begun to test her abilities with fire but its destructive capabilities have kept her from doing much with it in her past. While she can occasionally use minor magic in other elemental areas, she mainly sticks to wind magic.
  • Blood magic - Rey tries not to use this at all and is only newly introduced to her ability to use darker forms of magic provided to her by her heritage.
  • Arcane magic - Another less well-trained form of magic she has recently begun to explore. She can sometimes use arcane magic to access or communicate directly with other people along their surface thoughts.
  • Venomous - Rey has an innate attraction to dark magic thanks to her dhampir heritage. Though she rarely uses it, curses and dark magic come more easily to her than she would like to acknowledge.

  • PERSONALITY

Rey has managed to remain compassionate through the betrayals, hardships, and survival of the fittest mentality of the western reaches. She has a tough outer shell that was necessary to help her survive Jakku but she has too much heart not to feel for and help those she meets that need it. Most obvious in her willingness to try and turn Ben back to the light and how quickly she gave in to BB-8's beeps of sadness and jumped to help Finn get the droid back to the Resistance. It is also what led her to write a Survival Guide to Jakku for others to make use of when she was gone.

She has held on to the hope that her parents would return for her for years on Jakku. She kept up her hope by collecting plants in the harsh desert wastes around her. Looking at the plants, she would remind herself that beauty and life could be found anywhere. This hope is a desperate one that she still holds onto as she searches to figure out who she is and where in the Universe she belongs.

Even as a small child she set out into the graveyard of ships to find scraps, braving stronger and more dangerous scavengers, deadly creatures and harsh environments. She was often forced to face the death of those she had come to know or the risk of her own death among other terrors of Jakku. Through it, she refused to allow intimidation or fear to keep her from pressing forward and surviving, and this trend continues as she encounters larger and more terrifying threats. Though there are times she wants to back down or run, eventually she always ends up pushing forward and onward.

Through lonely and uncomfortable nights and days on Jakku, Rey used her imagination to escape her life and to improve it. She turned an old AT-AT into a home, fashioned toys and gadgets for herself, and killed the hours of boredom between strenuous scavenging trips with daydream adventures. As a child she imagined herself flying off to distant stars and systems, and to worlds full of lush green life and beauty she had never seen before. She crafted a doll and an imaginary friend. As she grew older she shifted her imagination to flight simulators, immersing herself in the mind of a pilot as she dreamed up what it would be like to be up there and free instead of stuck in the sand.

She resolutely shoulders onward until she either succeeds or has to find a new method. She nearly starved in her determination to fix up a ship she had found in the wastes in canon. She refused to back down no matter the odds once she decided to return BB-8 to the Resistance. She shadowed Luke across his lonely island until his refusal to train her started to crack. She has begun to realize she has the power in her to do something to help not just herself, but others, and that sometimes it is worth the risk of being betrayed.

She is very aware of the dangers around her. The first rule of her survival guide is a rule she lives by every day: Know your surroundings. Rey adjusts and adapts quickly to her new surroundings, paying close attention to the threats and resources around her. She works hard to find a way to make things work for her, rather than against her.

    KEY EVENTS IN GAME HISTORY

Rey was left by her family at the outpost between Einjar and Krimnos with a trader who took her in if it can be called that at a very young age, too young to understand why her parents left her but old enough to remember that they had done so. After that up until her teenage years she worked for him in both his legit business and his less legitimate side business of theft and swindling.

The mountains around the outpost were harsh and cold and barely anything grew there, but Rey was often tasked with going and scavenging things from people who had perished from either the environment or the creatures that lived in the mountains. In the process, she ended up witnessing another couple of kids working for the same trader get eaten by some of the more dangerous mountain predators and she quickly learned that survival had to be her first priority at all times. She couldn't afford to be caught off guard by wild predators or unstable and treacherous environmental hazards. She hid a journal she found on one of the dead explorers and started keeping notes of everything she encountered, always hiding the book in a tree near the outpost so plutt wouldn't find it.

She wasn't allowed to go to the city but she was encouraged to steal from people who stopped in the outpost. She also liked to sit and listen to stories of traders, explorers, and dwarves in the tiny waypoint tavern. Even though she hated living in the outpost and working for plutt she kept holding onto the hope that her family would eventually come back for her and stuck around because of that hope.

Then she saw Thymoeides fly over the outpost up close for the first time and she was immediately enraptured not only by the massive dragon she had only heard stories about but the idea of flight, something she had been obsessed with since the first cliff roc. had flown over the outpost. She even often imagined herself learning shapeshifting magic and flying in the skies with them after finding a journal that had previously belonged to an avian shiftling that had lost her life in the mountains. She made herself a small doll of the hawk described in the journal pages and kept it hidden with her survival guide in the hollow tree.

Eventually, a group of knights from Krimnos came by to pick up supplies from the outpost and Rey snuck away from the outpost and followed them back to the city. In the city, she didn't have any money for food and tried to steal a coin purse from a wealthy noble who looked like they could spare a few coins.

She was caught and in a moment of panic during the struggle, it was revealed that she was actually a dhampir, a fact that she hadn't been aware of until then. Because she was an orphan with no records she was immediately sent away to a temple where several other dhampir children were being taught to control their emotions and where an eye could be kept on her.
